Information Technology Cybersecurity Specialist - Recent Graduate

This is a developmental position with promotion potential to an Information Technology Cybersecurity Specialist, GS-2210-12. At the lower levels, the selectee will perform developmental assignments under closer supervision than that required at the full performance level of GS-12. Assignments become progressively more difficult until the next performance level is reached. At the full performance level of this position (GS-12), some of the duties include:
Providing innovative, cost-effective, and secure information technology (IT) tools and services. Working with other IT specialists in planning and conducting cyber initiatives, Self-Assessment, and projects. Conducting studies of all new automated information systems equipment to prepare effective security procedures. Evaluating the security impact of system changes to existing or proposed computerized systems. Preparing a variety of documents to include, responses to routine inquiries, reports, memos, and other related documents. Serving as IT Cybersecurity Specialist ensuring the security of IT systems, infrastructure, and applications. A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
One-year specialized experience that includes:
1) Assisting with assessments to identity current and emerging cybersecurity trends and concerns and the impact on networks and systems; and 2) Gathering background information on assigned programs and project to draft correspondence and reports pertaining to Information Technology. OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, two full years of graduate education from an accredited or pre-accredited institution that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks. The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined:
(1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. (2) Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. (3) Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. (4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
