Information Technology Specialist
As an Information Technology Specialist, you will:
Lead projects staffed with DOE and contractor technical experts on a regular and reoccurring basis, related to information management in support of safety, security and classification programs within AU. Project teams consist of one or more DOE employees, one or more contractor personnel, from cross disciplines of cyber security, network and database design as well as subject matter experts from the AU security and classification programs Serve as the lead for information management projects, tasks, working groups, and daily activities with responsibility for analyzing, managing, or performing work necessary to plan, design, develop, acquire, document, test, implement, integrate, maintain, or modify applications and databases. Ensure continuity in operations and the rigorous application of information management/information/security/cybersecurity policies, principles, and practices. Develop and maintain high-level cybersecurity awareness for the organization, and maintain a general awareness and understanding of cybersecurity and security concerns and issues. BASIC REQUIREMENTS Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:
Attention to Detail- Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service- Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication- Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving- Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Leading an IT project team or a segment of a project in order to maintain quality and mitigate risks. Analyzing incidents of enterprise users to resolve customer issues. Mastery of, and skill in applying advanced IT principles, concepts, methods, standards, and practices sufficient to develop new approaches and techniques and coordination to support systems; provide expert technical advice, guidance and recommendations to management and other technical specialists on critical IT issues; apply new IT developments to previously unsolvable problems and provide sound recommendations/decisions which significantly impact data management system applications. Knowledge of advancements and current trends in information management and technologies within the organization, the Federal government, and the private sector to implement the most robust cybersecurity policy possible. Knowledge of standard project management practices and procedures to analyze work processes and to identify, analyze, and recommend solutions to problems with respect to organizational structure, administrative procedures or work processes. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include:
volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Time-in-Grade:
