Lead Nuclear Engineer
As a Lead Nuclear Engineer, you will:
Ensure organization's strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans, products and services. Articulates and communicates to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review, and deadlines and time frames for completion. Coaches the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, provides advice on work methods, practices and procedures, and assists the team and/or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution. Identify, distribute, and balance workload and tasks among the team in accordance with established work flow, skill level and/or occupational specialization and make adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established priorities to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks. Ensure each team member has an integral role in developing the final team product; trains or arranges for the training of team members; monitors and reports on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work; and serves as coach, facilitator and/or negotiator in coordinating team initiatives and in consensus building activities among team members. To qualify you must have a least 1 full year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-14 level in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully in this position. This experience may have been gained in a non-Federal service position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
Establishing and managing a portfolio of collaborative nuclear energy research and development (R&D), and competitively-selected activities with industry or other research-supporting entities to support advanced reactor concepts and innovative technologies. Monitoring and coordinating with electric utilities, nuclear industry, e.g., NEI, INPO, EPRI and US NIC and potential users of nuclear process heat, to address issues related to the construction, operation, and maintenance of non-light water, advanced commercial nuclear power plants. Determining the financial and personnel resources needed to achieve mission objectives to support mission operations and improve efficiency. Evaluating the performance of projects managed under the team, including power generation companies, reactor vendors, nuclear supply chain entities, architect-engineering companies, and other industry organizations in order to recommend corrective actions. Comprehensive knowledge of nuclear safety regulation, policies, and procedures to ensure that health and safety features and precautions are considered in recommendations regarding the full range of nuclear power systems. Skill in development and presentation of written and oral presentations of complex technical and program information on R&D program objectives to; professional and policy making audiences (e.g., executives, managers, researchers, engineers) in NE, DOE, other agencies, contractor firms, interest groups, and the general public; and to brief other professionals as to conclusions and recommendations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include:
volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
