As a Physicist you will:
Serve as a Program Manager determining scientific focus and direction of the nuclear physics computing aspects of the research program, preparing calls for proposals, organizing independent peer reviews, recommending funding allocations, organizing Principal Investigator meetings, serving as a liaison on committees, and monitoring scientific progress of the program. Examine and ascertain the research needs and opportunities in nuclear physics computing topics in the context of the overall DOE basic research program in nuclear physics and allied fields against a background of scientific and technological advances and of potential scientific/technical needs of the Agency. Organize, participate in, and/or leads committees composed of agency, interagency, and government personnel for the purpose of representing the Agency and programmatic interests. Consults and negotiates with leading government and scientific personnel both nationally and internationally on sensitive issues and complex areas of importance to all involved parties. Prepare, justify, and support the portions of the budget relating to the nuclear physics computing program. Evaluate contractor, Agency laboratory, and grantee research proposals and performance via own scientific and technical judgment, merit review, site visits and reviews, and panel reviews. Develop and prepare analytical documents to communicate with top management of the Agency and higher echelons of government on the status of programmatic phases and new developments and opportunities in the area of responsibility. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, GS 14 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
Experience computing data and information, conducting research and development relevant to nuclear physics computing data, and coordinating with international nuclear physics computing activities. Experience should involve organizing scientific committees for the purpose of representing organizational interests, developing or overseeing the development of theoretical and experimental research in nuclear physics computing, participating in the funding allocations process for scientific programs, and consulting with scientific personnel both nationally and internationally on sensitive issues and complex areas of importance. Ability to serve as a recognized scientific authority and expert in nuclear physics, in particular nuclear physics computing and responsibility to plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate research programs in this field on a national and international level. Ability to organize and direct diverse groups in the solving of highly complex scientific problems and to identify key synergisms/leverage points that will facilitate major scientific breakthroughs. Knowledge and ability to plan, budget, justify, and allocate funds among a variety of competing programs and requirements. Ability to develop new concepts, and plan and evaluate long-range programs and projects that accomplish the organization's mission. Ability to advise and influence in managing and achieving a quality research program, the contribution to the advancement of research to meet exceptionally important new and/or changing national interests. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
