Accountant

As an Accountant, you will:
Work as a lead or a member of a team that recommends, develops, and publishes new financial and accounting policies, principles and procedures as well as revises existing guidance. Identify and implement changes to accounting processes and procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of existing internal controls and financial management practices. Participate in the preparation of financial statements including the coordination and preparation of the annual Agency Financial Report for Office of Financial Accounting and other managerial reporting as a result of Congressional, central agencies or internal reporting requirements. Research, interpret, analyze and evaluate existing financial data, rules, regulations, and policies to resolve issues and questions raised by the Department's management, and contractors, other Federal and oversight organizations, field offices, and representatives from the private sector. Develop, compile, prepare, maintain and track metrics to monitor and assess progress to ensure the Office of Finance and Accounting maintains an effective and efficient operation that adheres to established performance measures and standards. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
Experience in accounting or auditing work, which involves financial reporting and working with financial systems, experience interpreting, analyzing and reviewing financial statements, and experience with interpreting accounting standards. Skill in gathering and analyzing information related to Federal financial management and internal controls. Ability to interpret Federal requirements within operating systems and apply the interpretation to solve specific problems. Ability to work and form coalitions and skill to develop and present complex ideas that highlight key issues and summarize options and recommendations in a clear and concise manner. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include:
volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
